Interest Check - Sinner Hunter

Sinner Hunter

So everyone's running murdergames these days, and I've got a hankering to run one too. But in this case, it'd be one based on a completely different base mechanic, based on an original fic from one of my friends.

Setting

Everyone wakes up on an island, and it's made clear pretty quickly that it's virtual reality. The goal is to figure out the Sin of each person on the island, in multiple rounds, one for each person. You'll be provided with a metaphorical name and story describing their Sin, along with a "dungeon" that magically manifests and provides a reflection of the setting of the Sin.

Once the time limit is reached for figuring out the Sin, the group is brought into a trial room to debate the identity of the Sinner. Either the Sinner can confess and automatically "lose," or the group can vote after a certain period of debate. In this case, if the wrong person is voted for, the voted-for person "loses" and has their Sin automatically revealed, while the Sinner gets to leave immediately, though this causes the other players to forget them and their Sin.

Either way, once someone "loses," they're separated from the others, and three people are chosen to randomly vote for their fate. Eject allows them to leave the island without everyone else losing their memories, Exonerate lets them stay on the island and continue helping with investigations, and Execute does what you think it does. Should there be a tie, Execute takes priority. Yes, this does mean that it's possible for no one to actually die in this game.

Characters

I've considered making this an all-OC or all-AU game, to make it harder to recognize the nature of a Sin/Sinner's identity through knowledge of their original series. Either way, I definitely want people to bring characters who have a serious Sin. It doesn't necessarily need to be an actual crime they committed, as incidents caused by their own carelessness/neglect can work as well. However, the consequences should be serious in some way, no matter how they actually happened. I'd probably be fine with CRAUs for this game too, since they're not likely to have any experience that will particularly help with the structure of Sinner Hunter.

Dungeons

In the original fic, the dungeons were basically reflections of the Sinner's memory, and depending on the immediacy of the Sin could be almost exact replicas. It was also possible for them to have reflections of people involved in the Sin, or even monsters based on distortions of the memory. However, I've been considering making them slightly more low-key for the game, and instead just having them be large investigation locations without too much danger.

Trial Outcomes

I currently don't plan on having a deadland/ejectionland comm. If you die/get ejected, that's it. Though depending on how the plot works out, this might change. Also, Exonerated characters will probably have either lower AC requirements or have their requirements waived completely.

Reserves

Instead of having reserves be first-come-first-served, I've considered an alternate reserve system where your reserve also includes the nature of your character's Sin, and I'll select a cast that I think has the most interesting collection of Sins

Schedule

I'm thinking of having 3 IC days per round as in the original fic, with 1 day in between each round for rest, and 1 OOC week per round. These are my two current schedule ideas.

Schedule A (For simplified dungeons)
Sunday - Break day
Monday/Tuesday - Sinner story presentation, free dungeon investigation
Wednesday/Thursday - Free dungeon investigation
Friday/Saturday - Trial

Schedule B (For more monster-filled dungeons)
Sunday - Break day
Monday - Sinner story presentation, preliminary dungeon investigation
Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday - Dungeon diving
Friday/Saturday - Trial

Eliza Owens Generic CRAU Murdergame Meme

This is a post for whenever I want to do murdergame threads with CRAU Eliza. Available in two general flavors:

1. MGRP CRAU: Eliza right after getting out of Town A, maybe going home for a while. She's lost some of her arrogance but gained a strong protectively reckless streak in return. Still believes her abilities to be based on telekinesis.
2. WtL CRAU: Eliza at some point after entering the Meadous from Town A. She's gained way more friends and adoptive family there, along with a better understanding of her own powers. Plus a few physical scars, although they don't bother her too much.

Possible thread ideas from the generic murdergame meme:

    MURDERGAME TYPE:
      1. Investigative. This type of murdergame relies on having specific culprits per trial, each one handpicked as a culprit or victim.
      2. Mafia. Specific characters are chosen to be either a group of killers or a single killer from the very beginning. Other roles may also be given to other characters, such as Doctor, Gunsmith, etc.

    SETTING:
      1. School. The type of setting that you would see in Dangan Ronpa, your mastermind has kidnapped you and forced you to go to school! You may or may not have some special "titles" to go along with it. Sure, you might be trapped, but at least it's a nice place to stay.
      2. Island. Have you seen Survivor? Basically, you're trapped on an island meant to survive; of course, the essentials may or may not be given to you, depending.
      3. Prison. No wonder you're in a murder game! You've done something really, really bad, haven't you? The rooms in this setting will most likely not be as comfortable, but hey, it's better than having to sleep on the cold hard ground.
      4. City. You're trapped in a rather spacious city where some rather strange happenings are going on. You somehow can't leave, but at least there's a lot of buildings to go and visit and you can actually see the sky! Too bad murder is still a thing.
      5. Wildcard. Hit me with your best shot, I'm sure there's some setting out there that can make for a good murder grounds.

    PROMPTS:
      1. Welcome to Hell, Enjoy Your Stay! You've only just woken up, so you don't exactly know what's the situation. But you don't seem to be alone; there are others who are with you; maybe they might know the answers?
      2. So How About that Murder? You've just been told by your Mysterious Mastermind that "hey, you've got to kill to survive" and that... can't possibly be right, can it? Can it?
      3. MOOOOOOTIVE! It's been quite some time and your mastermind is pretty much sick and tired of all of this fluffy and sweetness to the point that they've put their hands down and decided that they've got to do something about it. But what's it going to be this week?
      4. So Do You Want To Be A Mole? Probably not, but it seems that whoever is overseeing your game thinks that you'd be great to be the game's spy.
      5. Roles, Roles, Roles! Specific to the Mafia set up, sometimes you're given a specific role. Maybe you can pass out weapons or guns to people. Or perhaps you can speak to the dead. Maybe you can block someone from killing for the evening. Whatever it is, you're special. Just make sure not to get killed. (For ideas on roles, feel free to utilize this list here!)
      6. So you're Mafia now, eh? You are one of the elite. The ones chosen to vote for who dies each week. Whether it's by choice or by chance, you've got a dirty job to do and you have to do it... or else. But hey, at least you're not alone! You've got some buddies to help you do the work with you.
      7. What's that? Somehow, somewhere, you've managed to find some sort of machine that takes a special kind of coin and pops out some sort of item? Who knows.
      8. Free Time Events Throughout the week, you're free to do as you please, so what are you going to do, even with the threat of murder hanging over your heads? Might as well get to know your fellow captives, right?
      9. Kill or Be Killed Whether you're mafia or just a solo killer, it's time to start your murder on! There's plenty of ways to do it. So how's it gonna be done this time?
      10. IT'S INVESTIGATION TIME! Ding dong bing bong, a body has been discovered! Whether or not you'll actually find any clues, however, to who did it might be a bit of a toughie.
      11. Let's figure this out The trial starts and everyone's eyes are on everyone else. Whether you're given a list of suspects or not, there's a killer to catch! But will you catch the right one? Or scapegoat someone else entirely innocent?
      12. I remember...! In some murder games, memories are key. Every Sunday, you remember something from your past that you've somehow forgotten. But why was it lost in the first place? And why are you remembering it now, all of a sudden? It is a mystery, truly.
      13. And the mastermind is-? Is it truly someone outside of the group? Or perhaps it was one of your friends after all? It's time to finally finish this, solve all the mysteries, defeat the evil twisted things, maybe get the Golden End and go home.
      14. WILDCARD Anything else that I'm missing? JUST JAM AND PLAY IT OUT!

Musebox Post: Hope Minett

This is a musebox post/CMO for my newest OC, Hope Minett! I need to voicetest her and also want to mess around in the setting a bit.

Setting Concept (Copied from Prof)
Modern Earth, but with magic-wielding humans called Mages who fight monsters to protect humanity. Mages can be magical girls, sentai heroes, or a variety of other kinds of flashy defenders of humanity, but the powers are fundamentally the same, and manifest at an early age - usually around 10-13. Mages fight monsters in savage battles of survival until they turn 18, at which time they surrender their powers so that magical energy can be recycled for the next wave of Mages to be able to defend humanity.

The thing is, this setup is a lie, perpetrated by a massive 300-year-old conspiracy. Its originators, the Elder Magi, are humans who hoard magical power to live forever as gods in the shadows of the world. Magic isn't actually a non-renewable resource - when a Mage offers up their powers, it's the power they were born with, not power recycled from others. The power taken from the Mages at age 18 is crystalized and put in the vaults of the Elder Magi so that they can continue to amass metaphysical wealth, living eternally in luxury and letting the youth do all the hard work of fighting the monsters drawn to Earth by its steadily increasing concentration of magic.

This story isn't named yet, but it's about young people realizing that they've been lied to by older generations about the form of a society built to exploit their suffering, and those kids getting mad and rising up to tear down the system that torments them to seize their own happy endings when the adults fail to help them.

Character Concept
Hope comes from a poorer neighborhood, and does her best to keep her chin up despite it. She has never been considered as a candidate to be a magical girl, and her neighborhood has been written off by the Elder Magi. So when an injured monster escaped there, they declined to send any magical girls to finish it off. Simply letting it die off there was seen as preferable. Who cares what it does to poor people in between that?

Unfortunately for the Elder Magi, Hope found the monster. And her first thought was that it looked like it was in pain. And her second thought was that she wanted to ease the pain. Unconsciously, she awakened her own magical powers-those of empathy. And for the first time, the monster recognized a human as more than a moving source of food. It allowed Hope to take care of it and slowly heal its wounds. As time went on, she slowly started to pick up other stray monsters-and then started to realize a disturbing pattern among some of them. They all claimed to once have been familiars who were forced to turn into this form and attack their contracted children, no matter how much they loved them. Slowly, she began to realize the truth behind the world of magic, and became determined to tear down this structure that hurt human and familiar and monster alike.

At first, she worried about the fact that caring for a monster might make her evil, and then decided to try and go full-force in that direction, embracing a "dark" magical girl form and the name Echidna, the mother of monsters. After she slowly realized that really wasn't her, she chilled out somewhat, but kept the "evil" aesthetic that she found she enjoyed. She's picked up biokinesis as another power, although she usually uses it to heal her monster friends and occasionally give them extra limbs to play around with. And she also has several powers based on avoiding attention, which she can share with others.

Hope's neighborhood is somewhat safer now, as well. Monsters that roam in are either befriended or driven away, and anyone sent by the Elder Magi to try and take her out is similarly dispatched. Hope knows that the rumors about the dark mage Echidna must be spreading to some degree, but at the same time she's not ready to leave her neighborhood behind completely. Still, her adventures will definitely take her away from home eventually...

Thread Ideas
1. Hope's setting - Is your character chasing a bounty? Trying to learn about monsters? Attempting to be an evil duo with her?
2. Jamjar - She's probably going to be fretting about her monster friends and what they'll do without her. Even if she has allies who know about them, do they know the right way to look after everyone?
3. Texting - Probably with a really cheap cellphone. She doesn't even have emojis.

Kill For You/Die For You Meme

Original meme found here!

Death and murder plots are serious business with long-term fallout and not to be chosen lightly. But sometimes we just really want the pain that comes with another character dying for yours, or seeing them murder someone in their defense... and that's what memes are for.

A1: Kill For You: Someone has hurt your character's loved one, and that can't be allowed. There's only one way to enact revenge or to make sure they aren't hurt again. Possibly with your character's loved one watching, but that's probably not too traumatizing.

A2: Killed For: Oh god no that was traumatizing. Someone killed someone else for your sake and now you're dealing with the consequences, whether you witnessed it directly or not.

B1: Die For You: Even if people can come back, that doesn't mean your character can allow someone they care about to be hurt. If that means sacrificing their life for them and dying in their loved one's arms, so be it.

B2: Died For: Someone you love is dying in order to protect you. You never wanted this. How could your life be more important than theirs?

How to meme:
-Post your character with their name, along with your preferences about which options you'd like ('will not murder', 'would prefer dying for someone over being died for', etc.)
-Other people respond to your character.
-Angst.
